Self Evaluations

Some departments have offered employees the option of completing a self evaluation for this performance year cycle. Tasks in Cornerstone always begin with the supervisor, however some departments may allow the employee to do a self evaluation first before beginning the actual task. Below you will find the steps that both the employee and supervisor will need to follow in order to implement the self evaluation process.

 

Step 1: Employee

The Self Evaluation workflow begins with the employee leaving an annual summary of accomplishments on their individual goals within their performance plan. These will be entered as comments on each goal. Here are the steps to follow to complete your self evaluation:

  1. Click on the “Performance Planning” tile from your Cornerstone homepage

  2. Expand a goal you would like to evaluate yourself on by clicking the arrow “>” located on the top right of each individual goal

  3. Scroll down past the goal details and click on “Add Comment” - a text box will appear. This is where you can evaluate yourself for this individual goal. Note that your supervisor will see anything entered as a comment and be able to incorporate that into your final performance evaluation task

  4. When you have completed your self evaluation for that particular goal, click on “Add” - the comment will be saved and will now be viewable to your supervisor

  5. Repeat these steps for every goal you would like to provide a self evaluation for

If your supervisor has asked you to include a rating, rate yourself from 1-5 as part of your comment.

Step 2: Supervisor

As a supervisor, you have the ability to review your employee’s self evaluation and incorporate their comments into the final performance evaluation task so that it will be added into their personnel file. Here are the steps to follow if you wish to use your employee’s self evaluation as the main factor of consideration for final ratings on this year’s performance cycle:

  1. Navigate to your employee’s Final Performance Evaluation task from the Cornerstone homepage

  2. Click on “Get Started” to advance to the University Staff Ratings section of the task

  3. On each individual goal, click on the downward facing carrot to bring up a list of options. Select “Performance Plan Page Comments” which will then bring up the self evaluation that was created by your employee based on that particular goal from Step 1.
    Note: this will also bring up all comments made throughout the year, however the most recent one should be the self evaluation provided by the employee.

  4. Copy and paste the self evaluation comments into the comment box of the evaluation task (view the GIF below for further guidance on this). Comments that you copy over from the goal and into this section will then be transferred over to the final PDF that will be later sent to the employee’s personnel file.
