For sites that have the ability to send emails to customers (i.e.: I-9, Leave, and ADA), you may need to communicate in a language other than English.

By default, emails in Salesforce are encoded for “General US & Western Europe.” For languages outside of this area (ex: Lao, Mandarin, and Nepali), you will need to change your email settings so your emails send legibly. If you do not update your settings, your email will look like this:

  1. Go into your profile

  • When sending the email in Salesforce, you could bcc yourself to confirm what the customer receives.

  • Changing to Unicode (UTF-8) does not appear to impact English and Western Europe languages.
